About

GPSA Research Exposition and Academic Showcase are held together in late March every year in WSU-Pullman campus. The GPSA Research Exposition offers WSU graduate and professional students a forum for presenting their original research, scholarship, and/or creative work while they are competing for winning awards in different submission categories. This year, Research Exposition and Academic Showcase will be held in person on March 24th, 2022 (9:00Am-Noon) at Compton Union Building, Senior Ballroom, Pullman Campus.

Students of all disciplines are welcome to participate. As a participant, you display your poster or creative work alongside your fellow graduate and professional students. You have the opportunity to present your work to faculty, students, other members of the University community, and the general public. Eligibility Criteria

• Who can participate? What can be submitted?

  • WSU Graduate and Professional Students who pay Pullman Service and Activities (S&A) fees
  • All members of the GPSA Awards and Scholarship Committee are eligible to submit the abstract for Research Exposition and Academic Showcase except the chair of the Awards and Scholarship Committee that has access to all information and is directing the evaluation process.
  • Awardees of previous Research Expo can NOT submit their abstract for this year, 2022 Research Expo; HOWEVER, they can submit their new research topic with new abstract to this year's 2022 Academic Showcase. 
  • Previous participants of Research Expo who have not won awards before, CAN SUBMIT their NEW ABSTRACT from a NEW research topic this year and compete with others to win awards. (Please pay attention that your previous abstract is online on our website)
  • Individuals may present only one abstract as a primary or presenting author
  • All work must have been completed at or for WSU (no external student internships)
  • Projects may not have been presented at a previous WSU Academic Showcase or GPSA Research Exposition (formerly known as Wiley)
  • Since in some of the fields of research study, it is hard to shift to a different research study within one year, the A&S committee decided to give those applicants a chance to participate in Research Expo and Academic showcase this academic year as well, but they need to share THEIR NEW RESULTS WITH MODIFIED TITLES with EMPHASIZING ON THEIR NEW UPDATEs. (Please pay attention that previous abstracts are online on our system, and the abstract of 2022 will be posted later, so it is not good for applicants and GPSA reputation to present the same work again)

 

Deadlines

• For GPSA Research Expo, you should submit the abstract here by January 18^th, 2022
• Your abstract will be reviewed by February 18^th, 2022, and you will receive an email from the Chair of Awards and Scholarship about Acceptance/Rejection of the abstract
• If your abstract is accepted to present at the Research Expo, then you need to prepare a poster for an in-person presentation of your work at the GPSA Research Expo of 2022. 

 

Abstract Requirements

To participate, you must submit an abstract summarizing your research findings, scholarship, or creative work. Your abstract must adhere to the following guidelines:

• Abstracts must adhere to a strict 250-word limit
• Abstracts must be written for an educated lay audience
• If you have an existing poster containing an abstract of a highly technical nature, that abstract may remain as part of your presentation; however, for this event, the submitted abstract should be written for a general audience and be free of jargon
• Demonstrate work that is of scientific, scholarly, or creative significance
• The abstract must describe original research, scholarship, or creative activity
• For creative projects: The creative endeavor must be clearly described in the abstract
• Methods used to accomplish creative activity must be described, and any program notes that help put the creative endeavor or process into perspective should be included
• For scientific projects: A goal or hypothesis for the project must be clearly stated, results summarized, and a conclusion reached
• Reflect completed work
• Abstracts that are proposals for future work are not acceptable. Some of the work may still be in progress (and is likely still in progress), but the abstract should report on what has been done so far. It is acceptable to indicate in the abstract "next steps" as long as the completed steps are clearly described
• GPSA Research Exposition abstract submission must follow the GPSA Abstract Submission Template

 

Abstract Review

GPSA Research Exposition uses double-blind review, which means that both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the abstract review processAbstracts are reviewed by GPSA Awards & Scholarships Committee, using the 2022 GPSA Research Exposition Abstract Evaluation Rubric

Poster Grading Rubric for Scholarship Competition

In Research Exposition 2022, we will use the same criteria that were used by the judges in 2020 GPSA Research Exposition Poster Grading Rubric to grade posters and presentations for the GPSA Scholarship Competition.

 

Scholarship Opportunity  

GPSA has specified $15,000 for the Research Exposition of 2022. All WSU Pullman fee-paying graduate and professional students are eligible in GPSA Research Exposition and compete for a total of $9,600 scholarship in six competition categories (First Place: $800, Second Place: $500, Third Place: $300 for each category). The rest of the budget is used for organizing the in-person event in WSU-Pullman.
